Moving Abroad from Richmond: Hiring a Removal Company
Posted on 29/08/2014
Making the move to live in another country is a difficult but exciting and decision for you to make for you and your family. If you are packing up your Richmond home and selling it to live in the sunny climates of say, Tenerife, you will need to fully consider what this involves and what it is you need to do.
Have you got a job in your new country?
Securing a job is one of the first things that you should do, this can take months and the last thing you want is to be in your new home but unable to afford the mortgage on it because you are still out of work.
What are you doing with your UK home?
Most people rush into selling their UK home in order to finance their home abroad and make the commitment to moving to another country. However, it makes more sense for you to rent out your property. A high number of people who move to another country either regret it or miss home so much that they want to move back, something which they are sometimes unable to do due to having nowhere to live and finding it difficult to find and finance another new property but back in the UK. Don’t rush into making a complete commitment to moving to another country, try to rent out your property using a letting agent for a few months until you are sure you will not want to move back to the UK anytime soon.
Where are you going to live in your new country?
You will need to find a property in your new country, and in the area that you want (close enough to commute to work each day), furthermore you will need to consider how you are going to finance this new property, will you be using your UK mortgage provider or an equivalent, or are you going to try to get a mortgage in your new country? If so, is there anything you need to do, such as get citizenship for example, before you will be allowed to get a mortgage?
How are you going to move your belongings to your new home?
You may be reluctant to move much of your old stuff with you and instead intend to buy new things in your new country. This is a good idea in one respect as it means you do not need to consider a removals company, however, in another respect, it means you will have a completely empty home in your new country that you will rush to furnish, and may end up buying impulse things that on reflection you didn’t want, need or don’t even like. Therefore, it is worthwhile paying for a removals company to take your things to your new home for you, it will save you money as you won’t need to buy all of these things again, and it will give you the time to consider properly how you want to decorate your new home.
Removal companies are now able to offer services to move your home abroad for you, whereas before they were perhaps unable to do so, or at least very few did, now there are plenty of companies offering abroad removal services. Some of these removal companies are also able to offer additional services to help you to move home, such as:
• Packaging services-they will help you to pack and protect your belongings ready to be shipped.
• Storage – they can store your things for you for as long as you need, which is particularly useful if you get to your new country to find your home isn’t ready yet or cannot accommodate all of your stuff.
• Insurance – removal companies have liability insurance which covers you and your belongings.
