There are parts of the house belongings that are very hard for managing. They require special care while they are at home and they need even more when are about to be moved. Porcelain and pottery and other kitchen appliances that are easy to be broken are definitely such things. If you know just essential tips for packing, you will not be prepared enough for the wrapping of these objects and you may find them all in pieces when you arrive at your new home. So do not take the risk to start the packing by yourself if you have not read at least few articles that will give you precious advices what to do and what not to do when it comes to the transportation of porcelain and pottery.
Like every other item, the sets can be broken when they are hit in another object, like wall or flour, and as they are rubbing into each other like for example when the cup is hitting the plate. So what is absolute rule to remember is to warp each part separately no matter how well they are fitting as you look at them. However you should be careful not to turn the things you are packing up into a mummy. The more layers you add to the porcelain or glass object, the more likely it is to scratch it after, when you are trying to remove the endless packing. The wrapping has to be secure and at the same time not too thick.
The next step, after you finish the wrapping, is to put the object into a cardboard box, which will protect it better. The wrapping itself will not keep it from pressure and breaking, it will only prevent the chopping and scratching. The box should not be too large, but not too fit as well, so you will not need to push hard the item as you are putting it inside. Fill even the small space left inside the box with other materials that will make sort of cushion for the object. If you want it will not be too much to put this box into another on, which is slightly larger from the first. Put more filling materials inside as the aim is to prevent any movement, event the smallest one, of the item made from porcelain or the pottery and its other parts.
When the packing is over and you are completely sure you have secured the item really well, it is time to take care for the labeling. It is essential part of the packing, especially when you are using the shipping as method for transportation. The label should be well taped to the box and if possible do not use handwriting, type it on computer and print it then. Include not only the destination address but one to which the parcel has to be returned to, because with the shipping, as with any other type of these kind of services, everything is possible. And you will not like to lose some of your favorite pottery, will you?
Make sure that you have sealed the box very well and taped the label very good to it. This is fully your responsibility and do not leave it to any other staff that will take part in the shipping. You can have every necessary insurances, but the major aim is to have the object transported safe and in one piece. Check and double check the bottom as well as the top of the box, because most of the surprises come exactly from there.
