When it comes to moving house, one of the main things that you will need to concern yourself with is how you are going to get your belongings from one place to another. If you are lucky enough to be able to fit things in to a car then you are lucky, but in most cases, you will need a van or lorry to do the work, or else you will end up with a fair bit of trouble! The size and form that the vehicle takes will depend on your needs and your budget, so it is vital that you are aware of all of the different options available to you. Failure to get the type or size of your vehicle right will mean that you could be wasting money, or may have space issues further down the line, so it is important that you are confident of your decision. Most removals companies will be able to advise on such things in the first place, but if you are going it alone then you may want a little more information…

For a start, most people that are moving house without the help of a removals company are doing smaller to mid size moves. If this is you, then you will have a couple of options; using a man and van, or renting a van and driving it yourself. If the latter is an option that is available to you, and you are happy to drive the vehicle, then it may well be the better option, as it will likely work out similarly cheap to have the van all day, as it will to have a man and van for three hours. If you can get things sorted in the three hours however, then the man and van service will reduce the stress of having to drive the van, so as you can see, there are plenty of differing factors that can affect how you go about everything.

If you are not moving with anyone else, and it is a short move, then a man and van driver will be very useful, simply in the sense that you will have another pair of hands to help you out. It is important that you do not undervalue this help as a man and van driver will be very well experienced in the job, and will be pretty clear on how best to load their van. You will find that this sort of knowledge can be extremely helpful, so they are not just cheap labour! Be sure to work out how your pricing works. If the journey is going to take an hour, and you should leave an hour each side or so for unloading, parking and the like, then you need to tally up the hourly rate for a man and van, against renting a normal van. If you are worried that an hourly rate may run over in traffic, then some man and van companies will give you a fixed price drive, which will often be a pretty expensive way to start, though it completely prevents any unexpected delays and price hikes! If on the other hand you are not completely sure about driving a van, then you should think carefully about it, as with the stresses of loading the van, driving it may make things worse for you, especially if you are rushed. You will find that the best way to get rid of such worries, is to go for the man and van option.
